Meeting Caprice and many more at the Business Start-Up Exhibition

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Giles Dixon and Sarah Dixon of ContractStore meeting Caprice Bouret at the Business StartUp ExhibitionContractStore had a fantastic time at the Business Start-Up exhibition in the Docklands ExCel centre for a couple of days (27-28 April).

We met 100’s of entrepreneurs at the show, including Caprice Bouret, supermodel and now head of a highly successful lingerie and swimwear business.

We thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone and we learnt a great deal about what start-ups are looking for and the problems they face. It’s going to be extremely useful to us as we develop the ContractStore business, so a big thank you to everyone who came and talked to us about their needs and experiences.

Don’t forget we are also running a prize draw for a half-case of champagne. Just go to the survey online to take part.

Do you keep a proper record of your orders? Purchase Order Collection now available

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Good business practiceVery many businesses have no proper system for ordering goods and services so we have come up with a set of forms to remedy the problem.

This is to ensure help you keep a proper record of all your orders. This can be useful in many ways, especially to ensure that the key terms are complied with by your supplier.

The order form is prepared with a space for signature by both purchaser and supplier, so you should, ideally, issue two signed copies, one for each signatory.

There are four forms in the new collection:

You can also download the full set and save about 50% of the price - click here.

Like all our documents they are in Word format so you can edit directly before use.

These are a key set of basic documents that are great to have especially if you are starting up.

If you have had a problem with purchase orders or similar agreements we’d like to hear about it.

CIC launches new consultant appointment

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

This Monday,10th December, the Construction Industry Council (CIC)published the CIC Consultants’ Contract and Scope of Services. The contract is a new multi-disciplinary form for use across the UK by experienced clients (employers or design and build contractors) appointing teams of consultants on major building projects.

At ContractStore we have for some time had a professional appointment for sale on our website which has a similar objective and is designed for use by a client appointing a number of different consultants on a construction project. Our document is in a form that will be familiar to, and accepted by, most construction lawyers as well as being easily understood by clients, whether experienced or not. For more information, go to http://www.contractstore.com/consultant

We have not yet reviewed the CIC appointment but will do so soon. As anyone engaged on a construction project will know, each professional organisation tends to promote its own form for use by its members - architects, quantity surveyors, etc., and these forms tend to be very different in style and language as well as too protective of the professional. What a client needs is a set of appointments with broadly similar terms and conditions and the CIC form - like ours- should be helpful in this respect.

Graphic Designers Use ContractStore Privacy Policy

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

We’re really pleased with the results of the free website privacy policy which was launched in May.

We’ve noticed that a number of web designers have been using the privacy policy as a standard in their new website builds, and have linked back to our main site.

Moma is a graphic design agency, which is responsible for some of the strange places that our privacy policy has turned up… including a site dedicated to Anti Gravity Boots! And Mike Young Designs have used the policy for their main website.

We’d love feedback about the privacy policy, and if you’ve used it for your site.

Or if you want to make any suggestions for legal resources you would like - particularly for use online, please feel free to comment below and we’ll look into the best ideas.
